I thought I'd give this place another update and upgrade to 5 stars. It's been 4 years since I was introduced to this place, and it has been consistently delicious each and every time I come back. This visit. I had the mushroom and jalapeño steak with pepper jack cheese and fries. By far one of my favorite spots to hit up and settle a craving for a cheesesteak sandwich.

I've only been to Philly once, and was not impressed by Pat's King of Steaks. But, my Philadelphia native friend tells me the sandwiches at this place are indeed authentic Philly. Authentic or not, I like 'em - and a lot better than Pat's.
The 7-inch is plenty of food, and with fries there's no way you're leaving hungry. Fries are a bit thin and not quite crispy enough, but the house battered onion rings are fresh and perfectly crispy.
Can't tell you much about the burgers - who orders that in a cheesesteak joint? The cheesesteaks, however, are great. Moist, juicy, and hot - fresh from the grill, as it should be. Four or five different kinds of cheese (including Whiz), onions, mushrooms, peppers, marinara - all the variety you'd expect.
Counter service is good and friendly (even though "ordering rules" like Pat's King of Steaks are posted, they don't send you to the back of the line if you do it wrong), and they typically bring out your food within a few minutes. Plenty of time to get in and out and back to work.
UPDATE: broke with tradition today and ordered a cheeseburger- pepperjack with grilled onions and peppers. Not as big (massive) as another favorite local joint, but big enough and just as good! Definitely a good place for a good, juicy burger. Lots of toppings at no extra charge (and not an expensive burger in the first place - $8.50 for a cheeseburger, fries and a drink). Can't beat that.
Update 2: ordered a chicken sandwich today. With peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Not bad. A few burnt bits of chicken but overall it was a good sandwich. I'll order it again. -

Great place great price. We have traveled everywhere and I love Philly steaks. I had provolone with peppers and onions and the onions rings it was all good. The kids had shrimp baskets and fries and they were good too. The fries and onion rings were homemade. The people working there were very nice and helpful.

Tried the pepper steak sandwiches at this location with bell peppers on one and jalapeno peppers on the other one. The one with jalapeno peppers were so spicy, but tasty. It was a good burn. The one with bell peppers was not spicy but still had good flavor. Both sandwiches were LOADED with meat, I had to use a fork to not let any of the meat go to waste. This is definitely a no frills place, with rolls of paper towels on the table and a self service station for utensils but service was fast and very friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

06/24/19 Review. I got here about once every couple of weeks. Today I went on a Monday and got the Double Cheeseburger Special. I'm prepared to say that I think that this is, at least currently, the best burger in Ascension Parish.
